Where and when do I get my veg bag?

We drop the veg boxes off to our collection points at Kenton Victory Hall on a Tuesday afternoon and at Dawlish Strand Centre on a Thursday afternoon.

What if I don't need a veg bag this week?

If you are away for a week or you need to have a week off receiving your veg for any reason, we encourage you to consider donating your box. You can do this by going to the Dashboard > View current pauses > Add Pause > Donation and we will deliver your box to Dawlish Community Larder. Alternatively, you can pause your veg box in the same area of the dashboard. We just ask that you do this by the evening before delivery day so that we know in time.

What does no-dig mean?

No-dig growing means we do not dig or plough the land, so the soil is not cultivated in the process of growing veg. This allows a healthy and diverse soil ecosystem to establish and remain undisturbed. Our beds are created using a thick layer of organic compost, which the crops are planted into. To remove the crops we either cut them at base level if they are leafy greens, or we push/twist and pull them out if they are roots. We cut weeds at the roots as well, leaving them in place to become more compost and feed the soil organisms. We think no-dig growing is amazing! We really see the benefits in the health of the soil and the veg. You can find out more by taking a look at Ruth Stout's no-work gardening method - who was arguably the first no-dig gardener! - as well as the renowned Charles Dowding and Richard Perkins.

Are you certified Organic?

We are not certified organic because we are a relatively new small enterprise. However, we use agro-ecological farming practices, and never ever use chemicals of any sort on the land or the crops, and we can promise you that we never will! We never apply pesticides, fungicides, herbicides or artificial fertilisers, we only add organic compost to the beds and woodchip on the paths. Please get in touch or follow us on Instagram if you'd like to find out more about our growing practices.

What are the benefits of locally grown no-dig agro-ecological veg?

That's a mouthful! There are many many benefits, here are a few...low food miles, restored soil health, increase in farm biodiversity, chemical and toxicity free food, increased carbon capture in soils, support for the local economy and local jobs, access to high quality food at reasonable prices, no plastic packaging, fresh seasonal food, connections with land and community, better local food security, growing in harmony with nature and the seasons.

What does agro-ecological mean?

Simply put, agro-ecology is a method of farming that uses positive social and ecological principles to produce high quality, accessible and appropriate food which is grown in harmony with nature. The Food and Agriculture Organisation's longer definition is: "Agroecology is a holistic and integrated approach that simultaneously applies ecological and social concepts and principles to the design and management of sustainable agriculture and food systems. It seeks to optimize the interactions between plants, animals, humans and the environment while also addressing the need for socially equitable food systems within which people can exercise choice over what they eat and how and where it is produced".
